Preparing Students for Real-World Situations
College students regularly walk across campus after dark, use parking structures and public transportation, attend social events, and interact with new acquaintances. Our training complements existing university safety initiatives by giving participants an opportunity to physically practice prevention, communication, decision-making, and defensive skills.
During this three-hour, hands-on seminar, participants learn to:
Improve situational awareness
Recognize developing threats
Establish clear verbal boundaries
Use confident communication
Avoid and de-escalate confrontations
Escape common grabs and holds
Make effective decisions under stress
Create an opportunity to escape and seek help
Scenario-based exercises can address situations involving residence halls, parking areas, rideshare services, elevators, social settings, and walking alone.
Programs can be adapted for undergraduate and graduate students, women’s groups, international students, residence halls, sororities, student organizations, faculty, and staff. Training may also incorporate information about your university’s emergency reporting procedures, safety escorts, counseling services, and other campus resources.
Apex specializes in practical, real-world self-defense. Our Unified Combatives for Self Defense curriculum integrates Krav Maga, Hapkido, Escrima, and Muay Thai while prioritizing awareness, avoidance, de-escalation, and safe escape.
