Strong Mind, Strong Body

Weekly Women’s Self-Defense Class at Apex Combat & Fitness

Build confidence. Develop practical skills. Strengthen your mindset.

Strong Mind, Strong Body is a weekly women-only self-defense class designed specifically for women who want to feel more confident, capable, and prepared to protect themselves.

Part of the UCSD (Unified Combatives for Self Defense) system at Apex Combat & Fitness, this class combines practical self-defense training with situational awareness, decision-making, and mental resilience.

The class is taught by our female instructors and open exclusively to female students, creating a supportive environment where women can train together, ask questions, challenge themselves, and develop real-world skills.

What You’ll Learn

Training focuses on practical skills and principles that can be applied in real-world situations, including:

  • Situational Awareness — Recognize potential problems early and learn how to avoid or disengage from dangerous situations.

  • Effective Striking — Develop simple, powerful strikes using natural movements and appropriate targets.

  • Escapes from Grabs & Holds — Practice responses to common grabs, holds, and attempts to control or restrain you.

  • Defense Against Common Attacks — Learn practical responses when confronted, threatened, or physically attacked.

  • Ground Survival — Develop skills for protecting yourself and creating opportunities to escape if you are knocked or taken to the ground.

  • Scenario-Based Training — Practice making decisions and responding under realistic pressure.

  • Mental Resilience — Build the confidence to stay focused, take action, and keep working through difficult situations.

More Than Physical Self-Defense

Effective self-defense starts before a physical confrontation.

Strong Mind, Strong Body emphasizes awareness, confidence, boundaries, decision-making, and avoiding danger whenever possible. When physical action becomes necessary, students learn to respond decisively, create an opportunity to escape, and get to safety.

The goal isn't to memorize complicated techniques. It is to develop a practical set of skills and a mindset that can work when you are surprised, stressed, or under pressure.

Part of the UCSD System

UCSD — Unified Combatives for Self Defense is Apex Combat & Fitness’s integrated self-defense system, incorporating principles and techniques from Krav Maga, Hapkido, and Escrima.

Training emphasizes simplicity, efficiency, adaptability, situational awareness, and practical responses to real-world threats.

Strong Mind, Strong Body brings these principles into a class specifically designed around women’s self-defense needs.
